How we verify

Most hot spring lists are copied from old maps and decades-old government surveys. We start from those lists too, then check every listing against current, official sources: the venue's own website for prices, hours, age and clothing rules, and land agencies (Forest Service, BLM, National Park Service, state parks) for wild springs.

Each listing shows when it was last verified and the sources we used. Where a venue doesn't publish something, such as pool temperatures, we say so instead of guessing.

Our wild springs policy

Publicity has loved some backcountry springs nearly to death. We only list undeveloped springs that a land agency or official tourism body already publishes, and we pair them with Leave No Trace guidance and permit information. If you manage land and want a spring removed, contact us and we'll take it down.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links, such as "places to stay," are affiliate links. If you book through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never affect which springs we list or what we say about them.

Safety

Geothermal water can be scalding, and some springs carry bacteria risks. Never put your head under, never soak alone in the backcountry, and follow posted rules.
